Are You a Prepper?

“Remind them to be submissive to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready for every good work.” Titus 3:1

Are you a “prepper”? Oh, not the kind that is prepared for the “doomsday scenario”, hiding food, guns, and supplies in little caves for the worst of days. It is good to be ready: it might be an earthquake, flood, or some other disaster (manmade or natural). You might be prepared to last days, months, even years if things get rough but are you prepared in the way this verse speaks to?

The Greek word for “ready” in this verse means to “be prepared”. But what does it say we are to prepare for? A lightning strike? A worldwide pandemic? War? None of those. We are to be prepared for every good work. Make sure you check the context. Are we told to be prepared for every good work only when things go our way? Only when “our” leader is in office? Only when we think it is right? No. It is within the context of being submissive to those in authority.

We may not agree with the way our country is headed or how it is run. We must PRAY for our country and its leaders, regardless of who is in the White House. We must also understand that, especially as Christians, we should not be “locked and loaded” to be part of a social uprising. We should be prepared for and looking for opportunities to do good.

The world is breaking apart at the seams, but we have a Savior Who wants to bring healing. We have a message the world needs to hear. Let that message come through brightly and clearly through the actions we take. Let us be ready for every good work.
