Where Light is Needed Most
Unless you are living on a deserted island with no outside communication, then you must realize what a dire and miserable state we are in as a country. I’m not talking about the political climate or who is right and who is wrong. That depends on your political outlook. What I’m talking about is the fact that this world has become a festering, stinking cesspool of hatred, derision, and division. We are seeing this played out daily, time and time again, in the seemingly endless protests that are taking over our streets.
What saddens me the most is what I see happening among Christians. Instead of remembering that our MAIN FOCUS is Jesus and that our PRIMARY MISSION is to tell others about Him, there are many who have taken up the banner of protest and are caught in the web of arguing political ideologies. That’s not to say we should all walk lockstep regarding political stances. We are entitled to our opinions. However, if we are to be effective witnesses to God’s unfathomable love and mercy, we MUST be willing to set our politics aside in order for Jesus to shine through. If we are going to be criticized and ridiculed, let it be for the Cross and not a political opinion.
In John 8:12, Jesus says, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (English Standard Version). How can we, who have been given this marvelous Light, keep it hidden? If we keep it hidden under the dung heap of this world’s priorities, it serves no purpose. We are not the Light, but we are called to reflect Him who has come to light the way to His Father.
Take the example of a lighthouse. The outer structure and all the expensive gears, mirrors, and lenses are all built for one purpose: to reflect and magnify the light. Without the light its purpose remains unfulfilled and endangers those who need it the most.
Without Christians fulfilling their God-given purpose, people around us will most certainly suffer and will ultimately be lost in the dark. Where there is great darkness, Light is needed the most.
Go and let Jesus, the Light of the world, shine through you brightly!
